Unified Progress Tracking Platform

Summary

To design and develop a Balancer-focused responsive web application that efficiently tracks all project milestones and progress updates across their lifecycle. The platform will aggregate data from diverse sources such as Discord, Forum updates, e.t.c enabling stakeholders and the community to monitor the progress of key projects, protocol upgrades, and strategic milestones with ease.

Motivation

The current tracking mechanisms for progress updates within Balancer are fragmented, with important information scattered across numerous communication channels. These include Discord, Telegram, GitHub, forums, and other decentralized community tools. This scattered approach creates inefficiencies, leaving stakeholders struggling to piece together insights, updates, and key performance indicators.

Stakeholders—whether core developers, community members, or governance decision-makers—rely on timely and comprehensive information to make strategic decisions. Without a unified view of a project’s development lifecycle, this becomes challenging.

Many delays, milestones, or deviations from strategic goals go unnoticed simply because updates are dispersed across platforms. This fragmentation hampers oversight and decision-making, as information overload and gaps lead to unnecessary delays, confusion, or misaligned priorities.

Creating a streamlined, unified tool would simplify this oversight by consolidating progress updates into one easy-to-navigate hub for the Balancer community.

Proposed Solution

How can we enable the Balancer community to gain a comprehensive understanding of key projects’ progress while fostering transparency and oversight?

Through user research and insights from community discussions, we propose a Unified Progress Tracking Dashboard to provide a single, canonical view of milestones, updates, and timelines for all major Balancer developments and initiatives.

This platform will act as a centralized hub for Balancer updates, providing visibility into critical performance indicators and milestones. Users can rely on real-time alerts and progress tracking tools to stay informed about delays, scope changes, and advancements.

Core Features

The Progress Tracking Dashboard will include the following functionalities:

  1. Milestone Progress Tracking:
  • Dedicated pages for individual milestones and updates.
  • Visual indicators such as progress bars and percentages for improved clarity.
  1. Real-Time Status Updates:
  • Timely progress tracking with updates on Balancer protocol changes, key development milestones, and other important events.
  1. Automated Alerts:
  • Notifications for overdue milestones or significant deviations from planned goals. Alerts will be sent via email and in-app notifications.
  1. Visual Insights:
  • Interactive charts and graphs to provide visual trends and insights into Balancer’s progress and development goals.
  1. Community Engagement Tools:
  • Mechanisms to allow the community to give feedback on progress and highlight areas of concern in real time.

Development Plan & Budget

Milestone 1: UI/UX Design & Feedback (1 week)

Cost: $750 USD

  • Develop intuitive wireframes for key user interface pages:
    • Progress Dashboard: Displays a snapshot of all active milestones and their current statuses.
    • Individual Project/Milestone Detail Pages: Clear insights into progress indicators and timelines.

Milestone 2: Frontend Development (1 week)

Cost: $1,250 USD

  • Responsive and user-friendly frontend development optimized for both desktop and mobile use.

Milestone 3: Backend Development & Integration (2 weeks)

Cost: $2,000 USD

  • Core backend development to integrate data from various sources.
  • Establish real-time progress tracking and update notifications.

Total Development Budget: $4,000 USD

Benefits to the Balancer Community

  • Enhanced Transparency:
The dashboard will provide clear visibility into key protocol milestones and progress.
  • Improved Accountability:
Stakeholders can monitor updates and ensure projects are on track and aligned with timelines.
  • Community-Centered Participation:
With a unified platform for real-time updates, users can become more actively engaged in monitoring and feedback loops.
  • Faster Issue Detection & Response:
Early warnings through real-time alerts will allow the Balancer community to intervene quickly in case of delays or deviations.

By implementing a Progress Tracking Platform, this proposal aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making within the Balancer ecosystem. The proposed tool will streamline communication, simplify milestone tracking, and empower stakeholders to foster better outcomes for Balancer’s strategic goals and community objectives.

Hi @Emmanuel and welcome to our forums.

The idea sounds interesting but I am not sure how that should be curated and benefit the DAO. There are a lot of moving parts in our organization and we already try to curate it and present easily digestible data on our forums. Additionally, we have regular weekly roadmap meetings aligning development and initiative effort across the ecosystem.

Also note, that a big focus for all SPs is to provide transparency which was further ratified with our SP and grantee standards proposal that recently passed. Furthermore, we are voting on a financial accountability framework. So given those initiatives are ongoing, I think we already have more guard rails and transparency in place.

This is my opinion but it seems this proposal text has been generated by LLMs. Given the increased amount of scam attempts to extract money from DAOs, I have to emphasize that we will be catious here, also because you are a new actor in the ecosystem.

Thanks for your response, my proposal does not conflict with [BIP-702] or [BIP-742] but rather enhances it with 742 being an inspiration for it. Also going through previous proposals, most seem to use the help of LLM to help assist with structuring, it’s a good tool for that. However, I did notice an issue with DAOs not just Balancer which is what my submission is looking to solve as someone who has a lot of years in the blockchain ecosystem.

I’d be curious to see this work done for another DAO before we can commit. From experience working with the Foundation, Maxis and Karpatkey I sense this proposal underestimates the complexity of decentralized organizations and what “comprehensive understanding” looks like.

However, I must say that given the low amount, this proposal should apply through the Grants Committee, who’s mandate can evaluate <$50k developments.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I appreciate your insights, especially your point about the complexity of decentralized organizations and achieving a comprehensive understanding. If you don’t mind, can you elaborate on what aspects of Balancer’s governance you anticipate will make progress tracking especially difficult?

The work has yet to be done for another DAO, I would propose a small-scale pilot/beta version within Balancer to demonstrate feasibility without full-scale commitment. I appreciate the suggestion and will follow up with a formal application through the Grants Committee once have adjusted the proposal.
