Gm Balancer DAO.
I lead the research team at PYOR, an onchain data tools provider. We are looking to build a governance bot to track governance posts on the Balancer community and share it on Twitter and Telegram. This post is to gauge whether this is a useful tool for the community and invite feedback.
Overview
This forum post aims to check the community’s interest in a Balancer Governance Tracker, a tool designed to track and report governance activities within the Balancer ecosystem. The tracker will be deployed across social media platforms like Twitter and Telegram to provide the community with real-time updates on Balancer’s governance proposals, discussions, and voting outcomes.
Problem
We’ve noticed a sharp discrepancy between – voting on Snapshot and the general Balancer and crypto community being aware of what is happening. This is a communication problem – what is happening onchain to the community offchain.
Solution
Take the message to the platform where the community is – Twitter and Telegram (for now, can be expanded later). We can do this by pulling the data from Snapshot and distributing it on Twitter and Telegram. Further, we can improve the reader experience by providing updates on – voting outcomes, delegate participation, proposal discussions, etc. Everything that is recorded onchain + is crucial from a governance PoV will be disseminated through the Twitter bot and Telegram bot.
Intended Outcome
Our main Northstar outcome is – higher participation in governance activities. We think a bot is the first step to – make people aware of Balancer’s governance activities, through large crypto channels – Twitter and Telegram. This would increase: general crypto community interest, and from there would seep into the very core of the Balancer community.
Beyond this it would help the community with:
- Enhanced Transparency: Increases visibility into governance activities, promoting trust and openness within the Balancer ecosystem.
- Increased Engagement: Encourages broader participation by lowering the barrier to staying informed, ultimately strengthening governance outcomes.
- Ease of Access: Allows community members to receive important updates on their preferred platform, enabling quicker responses to governance events.
- Community Building: Fosters a sense of collective ownership and involvement among Balancer stakeholders, essential for the protocol’s long-term success.
3. Key Features
- Real-Time Updates: Continuous tracking of Balancer’s governance platform to capture and report new proposals, ongoing discussions, voting statuses, and final outcomes.
- Social Media Integration: Automatic posting on the @BalancerGovernance Twitter account (or similar), offering easy access to governance updates for a broad audience.
- Proposal Summaries: Concise, readable summaries of each proposal, enabling community members to understand key points quickly and easily.
- Engagement Tools: Updates to remind or prompt community members to participate in votes or discussions, encouraging higher involvement in Balancer’s governance.
Success Metrics
The highest success metric is – voter participation measured by number of addresses voting in proposals. This is the final outcome we are chasing with the bot.
To achieve this outcome, we will monitor the following metrics:
- Follower Growth on Social Media: Monthly growth rate of the @BalancerGovernance account.
- Engagement Metrics: Likes, shares, comments, and retweets on governance updates.
- Proposal Participation Rates: Increase in the number of voters and discussion participants for each proposal that we share updates on
- Feedback from the Community: Positive feedback or suggestions for improvement collected from Balancer community members.
Request For Feedback
We would like to know if this idea resonates with the community. If there’s enough interest, we’d be excited to explore this governance tracker further and collaborate to make it a valuable tool for the Balancer ecosystem.
About Us
PYOR is an onchain data and research firm backed by Castle Island and Coinbase Ventures. We work with protocols like – Arbitrum, Cosmos, Compound, etc. – to build data tools to track governance updates, treasury outflows, and strategic decision making.
We’ve built data tools for:
- Compound: PYOR | Compound
- EigenLayer: PYOR - EigenLayer Dashboard
- ICP: PYOR | ICP SNS Rewards
These data tools not only benefited the protocols directly but were also received within the crypto community on Twitter.
