Balancer Maxis - The Final Update

Summary

  • The Balancer Maxis ceased operations at the end of September 2025
  • A new entity, the MAXYZ will take over all responsibilities formerly held by the Balancer Maxis
  • In terms of objectives, all targets have been met or exceeded
  • Given the team optimization efforts, the Maxis saved $39,389 over their 6 month funding period which will be returned the kpk managed safe to help fund other service providers

Initiative 1: Onchain Operations and Security Management (DevSecOps)

Fee Processing Infrastructure Optimization

The fee processing infrastructure underwent major cycles of improvements and feature expansion over the last couple of months. We now have a working infrastructure that is capable of

  • Processing protocol fees for both Balancer v2 and v3
  • Dynamically distribute fees to various targets such as the Balancer alliance program and other partners such as QuantAMM
  • Generalized voting market integration for Paladin, HiddenHand and Votemarket
  • Multiple layers of security checks guaranteeing minimal human error when processing ~$250k per fee round

Another big milestone is the full integration of our Balancer v3 fee burner infrastructure that lets us process fees without the help of third parties like Mimic, which overall reduced cost to the DAO.

Additionally, we introduced monitoring and internal reporting tools making it easier to assess bi-weekly protocol fee collection performance. Something that is critical for pillar 2 of [BIP-873]

Overall, we were able to achieve all our goals by automating most of our fee processing infrastructure while making it flexible and robust.

DAO Multi-sig Operations

The most notable change in our multi-sig operations is the introduction of a new chain deployment model as introduced with the HyperEVM launch with [BIP-862]. The approach of giving admin privileges to the Maxis Omni-sig safe in combination with clear KPIs makes our chain expansion strategy much more approachable.

Furthermore, we were working on simplifying the DAOs safe infrastructure significantly which will be communicated in a future update outlining the setup of a new operational “Balancer Onchain Limited” entity, having full control overall on-chain operations moving forward.

Security Infrastructure Development

We were continuously working together with Hypernative to finalize their v2 pool pausing functionality and also finalizing how to handle security measures for Balancer v3. All needed security measures should be in place starting Q4 2025.

Operations UI Enhancements

The Operations UI grew into a swiss army knife toolkit for the DAO and is now an essential part of our daily operations. We expanded its functionality continuously while incorporating very valuable customer feedback over the last couple of monhts. Noteworthy enhancements include:

  • Permissions payload builder and viewer
  • Buffer management improvements and EOA support
  • Hook dashboards and configurators
  • Safe support
  • Reward Token dashboard
  • Emergency payload builders

Overall, https://balancer.defilytica.tools/ has grown into a fantastic tool that synergizes well with all our other infrastructure. The DAO can rest assured that this tooling will see continued support managed through DeFilytica and MAXYZ.

Analytics

We continued to expand the feature set of our dashboards that are now regularly used by ecosystem partners to assess protocol and Balancer Alliance performance:

In addition, we worked with ecosystem partners to build a new suite of tools that will be released in Q4 2025 that will make it more transparent how fees flow for the DAO.

Initiative 2: Growth and Strategic Partnerships

Chain Expansion and Partner Integration

We supported two very exciting chain launches in the last quarter which are

  • HyperEVM
  • Plasma

Plasma chain in particular is THE most successful L2 launch in Balancer’s history securing over 200mln TVL after only 1.5 weeks after deployment. Our proposed L2 deployment strategy allowed us to execute quickly and meet partner demands with high speed and quality.

Initiative 3: Interfacing with Product Development

We provided continued support by launching dozens of pools for partners, especially for L2 launches. We also played a critical role in designing meaningful pool compositions and pushed for reCLAMM usage across L2s. Such an example is the very successful WXLP:USDT pool on Plasma hitting over $4.2mln in TVL at the writing of this report.

In summary we

  • Deployed 20+ pools across 3 deployments
  • Reviewed and managed rate providers and ERC4626 vaults
  • Overseen and managed a dozen stablesurge pools to have maximum capital efficiency at all times
  • Partnered with other Balancer strategy teams to fine-tune reCLAMM parameters to maximize LP experience and fees
  • Managed partner incentive programs on AVAX, Arbitrum, mainnet and Plasma to name a few

In summary, we played a key role in interfacing partners with our tech stack and were providing white glove services where needed.

Budget for Q3 2025

Most of our discretionary funds were used to pay freelance work in regards to automation and the operations UI. The monthly breakdown is as follows:

Spendings Effective Available Saved
Discretionary Jul $4,680.00 $5,000.00 $320.00
Discretionary Aug $4,200.00 $5,000.00 $800.00
Discretionary Sep $6,000.00 $5,000.00 -$1000.00

Furthermore, with the departure of Zen Dragon we also saved on overall people cost in Q3.

Total savings including reduced head-count and reduced discretionary cost: 39,389 USDC

These funds will be sent to the kpk managed treasury to be used to fund service providers moving forward.

Closing remarks

The dissolution of the Balancer Maxis represents the close of a remarkable and successful era in Balancer DAO’s journey. It has been an honor to work alongside the Maxis throughout these years and play a part in Balancer’s achievements. As we turn the page, an exciting new phase begins with the transition to a professional service provider: the MAXYZ — a thrilling evolution for both our team and the DAO. Our gratitude remains eternal, and we will always carry the Maxi spirit forward!

We will forever be grateful and forever be Maxis!

What an incredible wrap-up. huge respect to the entire Balancer Maxis team for everything accomplished over the past few years. The level of optimization, automation, and security you achieved across on-chain operations is seriously impressive, especially the v3 fee burner and the progress on the Operations UI.
