Balancer Grants April 2023 Update

Balancer Grants Wave 8 Update (Monthly Update #14)

The BAL Grant Program is one of the ways that BalancerDAO promotes the development of the Balancer Protocol and Ecosystem. The Grants Service Provider proposal posted in the Balancer forum was approved through the successful snapshot vote by veBAL holders, funding this quarter of grants. The current wave will run until the end of June and the vote for grant wave 8 has given the program 55,719 k BAL to be allocated towards grants for this current round!

New Live Grantees

The total amount of applications of this wave has reached 19 including 9 from the end of Wave 7, with 10 progressing to the next stage and 3 projects approved for grants at a total of ~5,122 BAL. We will be announcing these soon, closer to the release of their deliverables that we’re very excited about!

Finalized Grants this Wave

During this month of April, the project was finalised. The last step was to develop the investment page that allows joining the Balancer liquidity pools.

The site is deployed at this address: https://balancer-ui.org

Many thanks to the Balancer DAO for supporting this project.

Grantee Updates — Building

The program is proud to present our grantees and their updates in alphabetic order:

The pool creation interface is up and running. We have had to add additional contract to testnet — the rate providers. The team hit a small snag instantiating a pool on test net due to the size of the contract. The pool contract will be split into smaller components to remedy this.

  • Cosme Fulanito — Wave 7

Cosme is continuing to provide support to Balancer’s Spanish speaking community. Making Balancer’s tech more accessible to all is a key goal of the DAO and Cosme’s work exemplifies this. Grants is funding 4 months of support and translations.

Our vault product development process is complete. We are currently in the process of expanding our documentation.

At the same time, we are also looking for audit solutions to ensure that our product is ready for use.

We look forward to being able to put the product into operation.

Right now the Balancer integration is fully developed and audited. We’re working on implementing the contract into our testnet which will require us to factor in the weighting math in our front end for PNL.

On the tech side, the team has been working on the development of the testnet, planned to go live by the end of Q2, as mentioned in the Wave 7 Recap last month, and a collateral-project aimed at changing the way people trade on Arbitrum.

This is the last time you shall see a Kassandra Grants Update, but hopefully not the last time you will hear about Kassandra!

Over the last six months, Kassandra team has worked hard to ship an interface for Balancer Managed Pools, and we’re thrilled to say that we’re ready! Kassandra has concluded all the development of it, and it all should be live on Polygon over the next few days.

With this interface, Kassandra will allow anyone to create, manage, and invest in tokenized crypto portfolios powered by Balancer V2 Managed Pools infrastructure.

Thanks to the recent release of updated Managed Pools contract, the Symmetric team is making strong progress and should be wrapping up soon. We’re working though a basic UI project for the controllers and finalizing parameters for the Managed Pools.

With priorities on Notional V3, this grant work is on hold. The team remains ready on the smart contract side, but requires some more work on the frontend to get that ready for completion. Once Notional V3 is launched, the grant work will continue.

With this, we are taking big steps on the legal side to be able to launch the managed pools finally in a live environment on mainnet!

Updated the contracts section of the docs pages to be up to date. This happens using code that runs weekly and keeps it up to date.

For full scope completion to date see checklist here.

The majority of our effort in the past couple of weeks has been on getting the word out about the grant milestone completion. That went very well — thanks again to @steve0xp for his help there. In terms of engineering work, we were on an off-site last week and our resources have naturally been tied up in other projects. But we’ll be syncing up shortly about how to move towards completion of the final milestone.

  • all core system contracts are code complete, and progressing through review phase (this includes yBAL and derivatives + permissionless vault factories). we expect the review process to complete soon, allowing us to deploy contracts no later than early next week.

  • once contracts deployed, we’ll bootstrap the liquidity pool and complete work on UI/UX. including the user zap contract to help any user easily shift between any two positions within the ecosystem.
